Fishing the Bulkley River at Trout Creek near Witset, British Columbia, Canada

Things To Do

Co-ordinates: 54.941014, -127.324990

A few minutes east of Witset, you'll find a great spot to fish in the Bulkley River. You can pull off of Highway 16 and park near the river. A short walk and you can find your own spot anywhere along the bank.

In addition to steelhead, you'll find all five species of Pacific salmon in the Bulkley River. Spring salmon (also known as king or chinook) along with Coho (silver), sockeye and pink salmon.

There are no amenities at this location. Bring your own refreshments. Witset is just a short distance up the Highway where you can find a gasbar and convenience store in the village and Smithers is roughly 20 minutes east from here.

Keep in mind you are in wilderness area. Black bears and grizzlies are around and they love fish too. Bears require lots of fish during the summer and fall months. Salmon contain high amounts of protein which meet their nutritional needs and help gain their body mass. Keep some bear spray with you or an airhorn. Don't be afraid. Just be prepared. If you have any problems, you can contact Conservation Services for assistance.

A fishing license is required. Make sure you have it on you at all times when out fishing. Conservations Services do periodic checks every so often.

2023 was the first time Richard fished in Canada :) Apart from this location, he fished in the Bulkley River in Telkwa as well.
