Kitseguecla Lake, Bulkley-Nechako, British Columbia, Canada

Things To Do

Kitseguecla Lake is located in the Skeena Region, northwest of Smithers.

From Witset, it will take you 32 minutes (25.8 km) to reach. If you are heading out there from Smithers, the drive will take 46 minutes (41.5 km).

Both directions will turn off Highway 16 on to Kitseguecla Loop Road. Next turn on to Kitseguecla Lake Road which will take you across a railway track. Your destination is 16.6 km along this road.

The scenic drive covers some beautiful farm land properties with gorgeous mountain views along the way. It is a gravel road. The possibility of seeing some wildlife along the way is good. Depends on how much traffic the road has received before your arrival.

There is a bonus waiting for you out this way. There is another lake and you will encounter it before your turnoff to Kitseguecla Lake. It's name is Taltzen Lake and there is a recreational site 200 meters from the road. The lake is small. There are four campsites with picnic tables and an outhouse. Nice little spot to paddleboard or canoe.

Nearby you will see the turn off for your destination. It is a secondary road not suitable for large RV's or trailers. Your destination is another 3 km. As you get closer to Kitseguecla Lake, the road goes down steep and it is narrow. You wouldn't want to meet another vehicle coming the opposite way.

It's a beautiful recreation site with spectacular views of the Rocky Ridge Mountain Range from the north end of the lake. There is a large parking area, boat launch, land-based dock and floating dock. There are 6 campsites ideal for tenting. Picnic tables and outhouses.

Max depth is 15.2 meters (37.5 feet). The lake is good for trolling and fly fishing Cutthroat Trout reaching up to 1+ pounds.

A great location to come spend a day!

A person can drive further ahead past the lake turnoff for some distance. Staying on Kitseguecla Lake Road. There is a good chance you will see some wildlife out that way too. Check out some side roads. We came across an owl on a logging road that veers to the left. I (Barb) was trying out a Bigfoot call when I accidentally called in an owl. It visited us for a while as we were having a coffee break. The owl was very chatty too. Then it followed us back out the road for about half a mile before going back to where it came from.

👉Back in the 70's, a wolf pack in the Kitseguecla area had earned a nasty reputation. It's leader was a large black wolf too.

🙏On October 14, 2017 Francis Brown became separated from her cousin while out mushroom picking in the Kitseguecla Lake Road area.

A massive search effort that involved Search and Rescue, Terrace RCMP Dog Services, RCMP members, and RCMP with Air 3 (Prince George based helicopter) failed to find her.

Police say she had some backcountry experience, she was prepared with adequate clothing and had a lighter on her. She is deaf in one ear and was last seen in an area with light to moderate rain and mild temperatures.

She has not been seen since.
