In October last year, we purchased an RV. I was going to be building a massive four arch gazebo for my sister and brother-in-law's new Airbnb. I lived in the town of Smithers at the time. The trip out there and back would be too much so we figured the best thing to do would be to spend the winter in the RV on the ranch, while I worked on this project.
Richard lives in Oklahoma. We were married over two years ago in Telkwa, BC. Ever since then, we have been gathering documents for US immigration and have been going through the process so I can move to Oklahoma to be with him. He comes to visit me often. So I stayed in the RV by myself, with the exception when Richard came to visit. Five months later, my project was completed for Dead Wood Gone Airbnb.
I wanted to be closer to Oklahoma so I decided a move to southern Saskatchewan would be the way to go. I plan to cross at the border there when the time comes anyway. Travel-wise for Richard, this was a better option than having to travel all the way to northwestern BC to see me. It was closer for him to see me in Saskatchewan too.
I found a house to rent in the outskirts of Moosomin. Richard made sure he could come up to help me with the move. So we sold the RV, rented a Uhaul trailer and left Smithers Saturday April 27th, 2024.
We spent the first night on the road in Prince George. The following morning after breakfast at Denny's we headed towards the Alberta border. As we neared McBride we encountered some unexpected snow and wind storms. So we decided to stay the night in McBride. We'd tackle the pass through the mountains in the morning.
Monday morning we continued safely through the pass. Traveling through Alberta, stopping in Maidstone, SK shortly before midnight. We spent the night at the Maidstone Motel, which used to be called the Sandpiper Motel.
Years ago I used to manage the Sandpiper Motel for then owner Peter Lee. I spent three days filming with Monsterquest during that time. Appearing in Season 3, Episode 2 Cattle Killers. Under my former name Campbell. He since sold the motel. I also served a one year term as Economic Development Officer for Big Gully REDA in Maidstone from 2003 to 2004. Opting not to sign a further contract. - Barb
Wolseley Motel
Tuesday morning we left and headed straight for Regina, and then on towards Moosomin. It was getting late in the afternoon by the time we arrived in Wolseley. We decided to stop at the Wolseley Motel. We didn't want to be pushing our driving like we did the day before. Richard went inside the office and came out with a room key. We were lucky to get the last available room that night.
Our room was really cute. It wasn't large but it served its purpose. We had everything we needed and we were tired from all that traveling. The bed was new and super comfortable. Outside, there was a covered area with picnic tables and a BBQ. The owners are really friendly. The place was quiet and clean. It was an enjoyable stay. We would recommend this place to anyone traveling between Regina and Manitoba on Highway 1, whose looking for a place to stop and get some rest for the night.
Wednesday morning we stopped in Whitewood for some breakfast and then continued on our way to the farm where the house was located. It had been quite a long journey and I'm so glad Richard had been with me. By the way, we are still going through the process with US immigration. We are now at the stage where we are waiting for the date for my medical exam and then finally the interview.
We give this motel a rating of ★★★
